PREPARE YOUR QUOTE

Creating Your Fence Layout

A detailed fence layout helps your distributor provide an accurate quote. Follow these steps to create a layout drawing of your property.

STEP 1

Sketch Your Property

Draw a rough outline of the area you want to fence. Include property boundaries, buildings, trees, and any obstacles.

Pro Tip: Use graph paper for more accurate proportions.

STEP 2

Mark Gate Locations

Indicate where you need gates for vehicle access, pedestrian access, and moving horses between paddocks.

Pro Tip: Standard gate widths: 4′ for walk-through, 12-16′ for equipment.

STEP 3

Measure & Note Distances

Walk your fence line and measure the distance of each straight run. Note the total linear footage.

Pro Tip: Use a measuring wheel for longer distances.

STEP 4

Add Special Notes

Mark terrain changes, rocky areas, water crossings, or any areas that may require special consideration.

Pro Tip: Photos of challenging areas are very helpful!

What to Include in Your Layout

  • Total linear feet of fencing needed
  • Number and width of gates required
  • Preferred number of rails (2, 3, 4, or 5)
  • Corner and end post locations
  • Any areas with significant grade changes
